Why Omniture Suite Is Counterproductive for Media Companies

The newest version of Omniture's site catalyst is absolutely horrendous for media companies because the new UI is completely catering to retailers. The newest version defaults metrics to "revenue" instead of page views, meaning that every time we want to run a report, we have to jump through hoops to get the data. If I'm a retailer, I love the convenience, but if I'm not, you just killed my productivity. The fact that you can't globally change this preference is mind boggling.

To any media company thinking of switching to Omniture for Web analytics or is currently migrating from Web Side Story / Hitbox, be prepared for a bad experience. I loved Omniture previous to this upgrade, and I hope they figure out how miserable they've made people like me and fix the problem shortly. Right now, though, I'm as frustrated as possible. I now have to prepare a presentation for a trade show on analytics using a solution that stinks now

Omniture SiteCatalyst Allows Definition of Default Metrics Shown

Hello, there:

Actually, SiteCatalyst does allow customers to determine what is the “default” metrics shown in any report and not just retail and media, but any metric for any vertical. Please call ClientCare and they will instruct you to use the “Set Default Metrics” configuration dialog from SiteCatalyst. Any of the 7 default metrics or 80 client-defined metrics can be selected as one of the three “default” metrics.

Additionally, metrics selected in a Bookmark or Dashboard are always remembered so that you can easily access a report you need to see frequently.

Version 14 (released just a few months ago) was a big improvement to our interface and very welcomed by our customers. Perhaps you simply haven't been exposed to all of the options, and where they have been moved in the new version. Please don't hesitate to call ClientCare for any guidance you might need. I apologize that you've struggled to find these features.

Best of luck to you.

I wish that were true

Actually, that was the reason for the rant. We called ClientCare and we showed them that we had to go in and change it for each of the couple hundred report suites that we have.

I appreciate the response, though. Your marketing team is fantastic, and the fact that you responded to this post shows how on top of conversational marketing you guys are.

Further Follow-Up

Prescott-

We’ve researched your issue further and have discovered a solution to address this issue. Via our API, we can create a script that will programmatically change your default metric to revenue for each of your couple hundred report suites. This will spare you from having to manually change each one (or hiring a college intern do it for you) 

We will contact you directly to review how to make this happen for you. Thanks again for raising this issue and giving us the chance to address it as this will benefit other customers who may be dealing with this same challenge.

Have a good weekend.

Great News!

I didn't see this right away, but I'm really appreciative of the follow up. I'm looking forward to hearing about the solution and will forward it to my technical lead for our Omniture implementation.

The fact that you are still

The fact that you are still paying for Omniture is the biggest problem.

Problem??

Mr Anonymous.
The fact that you believe Google Analytics can give you all that you need is pretty ridiculous. While you continue riding the "free" wave. Those that invest in their online initiatives will continue to make money, while you continue to watch your GA trendlines hit rock bottom.

I was pretty bugged with the default metric as well being revenue. Then again, I don't have hundreds of report suites to manage, and therefore, the change was relatively simple.
