A little more than a month after discontinuing the print edition of PC Magazine and taking the brand online-only, publisher Ziff Davis Media has sold its 1UP Digital Network to Hearst’s Ugo Entertainment.read more

Looking to conserve its resources for its PC Mag Digital business, Ziff Davis Media has sold off the 1UP Digital Network, its collection of video game sites, to Hearst Corp., which will fold it into the UGO Entertainment division, the companies said. In conjunction with the sale, the related print mag Electronic Gaming Monthly will publish its last issue this month. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

A lot of magazines that have shut down in the past couple years, from Premiere to Playgirl, have used the fig leaf of continued online-only publication to claim that they're not really shutting down.

That's not what PC Magazine is doing, says Ziff Davis Media CEO Jason Young.

First it was IDG, which decided to outsource circulation for PC World, Macworld and GamePro to circ services firm ProCirc. A few days later, fellow tech publisher Ziff Davis Media said it will outsource circulation of PC Magazine and Electronic Gaming Monthly to consultant Charles Mast.read more
